Who Are We?

We’re a friendly and welcoming church family; a mix of different ages, church traditions, backgrounds, and spiritual experiences.

Our heart is to serve and support our local community by sharing the love and hope of Jesus.  The Gateway Centre is at the core of that mission, offering a growing range of activities and community support throughout the week.

We’re especially excited to welcome children and families into the life of our church.

What Are We?

We’re an independent church with a passion for Jesus and a love for people. We’re part of the Evangelical Alliance, but we’re not tied to any specific denomination or movement.

What About You?

Here’s what we see as our ideal candidate, but we know God will send us His person, so are open-minded:

Ideally, you will be:

  • passionate about integrating those of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds into church life
  • able to preach and teach the Bible in an engaging, and accessible, way to our diverse community
  • excited to connect with our community and lead us to share Jesus’ love with our neighbourhood
  • a visionary, Spirit-filled, leader with a willingness to learn, and grow, with us
  • someone with good Bible knowledge, sound theological understanding, and, preferably, some theological training.

Also, we’d hope you would have:

  • a minimum of 3 years of church leadership experience, preferably as a Minister or Assistant Minister
  • experience of work, or ministry, with those of a wide range of ages and backgrounds
  • experience of, and/or training in, taking funerals, weddings, and believers’ baptisms.

Some essentials:

To do this job you will need to:

  • be a committed Christian* who shares our beliefs (click here)
  • pass an Enhanced DBS check for children and adults with care and support needs
  • have a valid driving licence and your own transport
  • be prepared to live within 5 miles of Gateway Christian Church
  • be a UK citizen or have Settled Status, as we are not able to sponsor visa applications.

*This role has an Occupational Requirement to be a Christian, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

How Will It Work?

Our process includes two Zoom interviews and one in-person meeting at Gateway*.  Then shortlisted candidates will have the opportunity to preach and connect with our community before any final decisions.

Job Title: Minister

Reporting to: Oversight

Salary: £35,000-£40,000pa* depending on experience

Hours: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Contract Type: 3-Year rolling (mutually reviewed every 3 years)

Key Purpose of the Role

The Minister will provide spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and vision for the church. They will lead in preaching, teaching, discipling, and mission, equipping the congregation to grow in faith and serve the community.

Key Responsibilities

Spiritual Leadership & Teaching

  • Preach and teach God’s Word in a way that is accessible to all ages and backgrounds.
  • Lead and inspire the church in prayer, worship, and discipleship.
  • Encourage spiritual growth through life groups, Bible studies, and mentoring.

Pastoral Care

  • Provide pastoral support to individuals and families, offering guidance and encouragement.
  • Be available for significant life events (e.g., baptisms, weddings, funerals).
  • Foster a culture of care and support within the church community.

Engaging All Ages

  • Be passionate about integrating children and families into church life.
  • Engage people of all ages in faith, discipleship, and church activities.
  • Work with youth and children’s ministry leaders to nurture young people’s spiritual growth.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Be a servant-hearted and relational leader, working closely with church teams and volunteers.
  • Manage, support and equip staff and volunteer leaders in their ministries.
  • Encourage, empower, and develop new leaders within the church.

Mission & Outreach

  • Lead and inspire the church in local and global mission.
  • Build relationships locally and within the wider community, seeking opportunities to share the Gospel.
  • Encourage a culture of evangelism and social action.

*Salary: we’re happy to explore offering you a rent-free home for the medium or long term, along with a reduced salary. This could give you a better value package overall.
